CEDO565 Week 1

I maintain several lead roles in my district. First, as the LMS, I provide leadership to staff and students on information literacy as well as reading strategies. Second, as the Technology Facilitator, I am responsible for writing the district's technology plan and tracking progress of staff and students on 21st century skills. I meet with the school board to report on our progress of our tech plan goals as well as recommend new technologies for our staff and students. Third, as the first teacher in my district to write a PDP, I have become the "go-to" person for guidance to our new teachers to assist them with writing their PDPs.

  1. Mary,
Does your district have a PDP trained staff member or are you it?! I can't even imagine trying to mentor others when I am still trying to figure everything out! Koodos for you!!!

I also never realized how much of a leadership position the LMS is in. thank you for opening my eyes and realizing how much more this person has to do. (Its not just this post but having heard you talk about your career in class, etc.)

  2. Mary,
It is great that you are a leader in the PDP process at your school district. I really had none and it was frustrating. No one would answer my questions. They would just tell me to send them my goals and PDP. I hope you continue to be a positive leader because initial teachers could really need a leader in the process.

  3. Mary,
I work very closely with our Media Specialist and there is no doubt that this position needs to be a valuable leadership position in any school. I'm glad to hear that as both the library media specialist and the technology facilitator you have been a major role in the writing your district's technology plan. With the state's requirement to integrate library media and technology into one plan it's so valuable to have the input and vision of both roles. Did you recently write your technology plan? How many people work with you to write the district plan?

  4. It amazes me, Mary, that you took on the tech plan! Those things are horrible to write! And I can appreciate the role that you have in your school. I think a lot of people don't realize everything that a LMS does (it's not just books anymore!). You are a credit to our profession!!! Thanks!
