CEDO530 - Post #3 - Picture Superiority Effect
In the book Presentation Zen, I really liked the chapter on Design and Techniques. The image examples on pp. 133-152 were fantastic! It really hit home with me how less is more. I would have to say that 99% of presentations that I have viewed are not good. Too many words, too many graphics, just plain out too busy looking. The book gave me great ideas on what types of graphs are visually attractive and yet get the point across. I also like how many of the examples showed images taking up the entire slide and putting only short phrases over the image...again very powerful.

I agree! I have found myself watching power points at school or seeing them somewhere since class has started and noticing the distinct difference from what we've been learning and the reality that is out there.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that less is more in many cases. I know when I redid my power point, I got rid of a bunch of stuff and put it in the hand out. It made the slide show much shorter, and hopefully more engaging. Have you had a chance to redo yours yet?
It is interesting when you start seeing things through new eyes. Old habits are hard to break though - but if you move into the use of these presentations you will be grateful. I look forward to seeing your work.
